Duncan, General Director, Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, USA, Regarding USTR/Department of Commerce Report on US-Japan Agreement on Autos and Auto Parts [April 18, 1997] For Release Contact: Charley Powers 202 452 1670 WASHINGTON, DC, April 18, 1997--The report confirms that Japan has met the requirements of the agreement. The Administration's disappointments expressed in the report are solely the result of their own unilateral expectations. However, it is alarming that the Clinton Administration would attempt to further distort the agreement by including within its scope references to auto imports into the US which were not included in either the agreement or the discussions that led to it.
