Japanese Automakers Continue to Meet Consumer Needs in a New Generation of American Mobility
This report details the continuing economic contributions that the member companies of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) are making to the United States. As you will see, JAMA members' investment in America is substantial and continues to grow, bringing new plants, new jobs and new vehicles to communities across the country.
- JAMA members' U.S. investment increased to $32.675 Billion in 2007 from $30.993 Billion in 2006 and their total employment, including their dealers, increased to just under 425,000 Americans in 2007.
- JAMA members' U.S. parts purchases for use in the U.S. and Japan increased to $49.97 Billion in Japan Fiscal Year (JFY) 2007 from $48.82 Billion in JFY 2006. JFY 2007 ran from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.
- North American built vehicles accounted for 63 percent of U.S. sales of Japanese-brand vehicles in 2007, the same as in 2006.
- JAMA members' hybrid vehicle sales in the U.S. reached 295,000 in 2007, increasing almost 30 percent from nearly 230,000 in 2006.
